DJ Khaled Gets Real About Moisturizing, Fatherhood, and His Dream Collab

From his top album Major Key to the release of his new book "The Keys," and the birth of his first child Asahd, DJ Khaled has had one seriously blessed year. While the king of Snapchat has grown a tremendous following due in part to his motivational and inimitable catch phrases, his visionary collaborations are what truly sets him apart. DJ Khaled has and continues to create chart topping hits with some of the biggest stars including Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, and Drake, to name a few. However his latest partnership might be the realest of them all.

True fans of the bonafide hitmaker know that DJ Khaled does not mess around when it comes to his keeping his skin nice and smooth. For this Miami native it's all about cocoa butter, which makes his latest partnership with Palmer's the perfect match. DJ Khaled just release a limited-edition capsule with the OGs of cocoa butter. As we told you earlier this week, the DJ Khaled x Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula collection includes three bottles of the original with Khaled's top notch catchphrases—"We The Best Glow," "Live Life Smooth," and "They Block." We caught up with the star to find out how he blocks the haters from his life and always stays smooth on and off the stage.

How did this partnership all come about?

[My] partnership with Palmer’s was an organic situation. That just happened because I really use Palmer’s and cocoa butter. I’ve been using it all my life and I feel like the whole world has. It’s just something I feel has been in everybody’s house and my fans know I really use it. When I got a chance to partner up with Palmer’s company it was a no-brainer and I was excited.

What are your three major keys to glowing skin?

God gave me my beautiful skin. To be honest I only use cocoa butter. Why live life rough? That don’t make no sense, you gotta live life smooth. And of course Dove soap. But, I really don’t [use] too much stuff, I’ve been blessed.

You always give off such great vibes and energy. How do you prepare before heading out on the stage?

I pray every time. I pray when I wake up, and before I go on stage. If i’m not praying, I’m meditating.

You’ve worked with some of the best artist in the industry today. Is there anyone you haven't worked with yet that you would love to work with?

I’ve worked with Beyoncé before, when I went on tour. But I want to make a record with her for my album. God willing that will happen.

You just had your first child, congrats. How has it been being a new dad?

It's exciting. He sleeps with me and mommy, he’s my joy. He’s everything to me, and he's shown me what life is about. He’s shown me what real happiness and joy is. I promise you there are no words to explain the love because it’s a love that you never knew existed until you've had your son or daughter.

What is the funniest moment you’ve shared with Asahd so far?

When I talk to him he just opens his eyes and he listens, and he shakes his head. Then after I’m done talking to him he gives the biggest smile. It’s unbelievable.

Since it is the holiday season. Do you have any special family holiday traditions?

Just to be with the family, pray for greatness and your loved ones. This holiday season I’m going to be with my family, my son and my queen. I’m going to work out when I have some time off and focus on the new year, and just embracing all the amazing things that have happened this year.

One of the special edition bottles in your collection is called "They Block." “They,” being people you describe as haters. What is the best advice you would give to someone when dealing with a ‘they’?

First of all never entertain them, but show them that you’re great, so they know not to ever play with you. Who wants to be around a “they”? Who wants to live a "they" life? Let’s not do it. If you walk in a room and “they” is there, and they don’t leave before you, then you leave. Stay away. And use that “They Blocker” and they'll run.
