Party-ready hair is pretty much synonymous with a mega dose of glitz and glam. Naturally, we’re all about taking that literally. Brace yourself: The mega-watt glitter braid is here just in time for your holiday fêtes. This week, beauty guru and stylist Nikki Lee (who happens to be the genius behind Selena Gomez’s killer comeback hair at the AMAs) introduced the world to the glitter braid—a plait painted with messy strokes of glitter to bring a whole new meaning to the idea of shiny hair.

To create the party ready look, Lee used a fishtail braid, which keeps the glitter braid from looking too cutesy, before glitzing up. The resulting multi-tonal shine-fest is all edge, baby. But the real secret is in the glitter. Specifically the won’t-ruin-your-hair genius of Major Moonshine Glitter Gel. According to Lee’s post, the look was created as part of a video series for Beauty Coach TV, a subscription based site from Lee’s Nine Zero One salon. With the help of guest colorist Daniel Moon, they achieve the solid metallic hues by literally painting the glitter on with a brush. The super bold standout look leaves no room for subtle sparkle.
The best part? According to Major Moonshine’s site, the glitter easily washes out with a little shampoo, which is practically unheard of. Removing glitter usually requires much effort and patience. That kind of product genius doesn’t come cheap though—the full set of glitter will run you $224. That’s a lot of holiday shine. But, 'tis the season!
