Instagram Released Its Live-Stream Video Feature for All Users

Within the past couple of days, you may have received notifications from Instagram, telling you to check out your friends' live videos. Haven't seen one yet? Don't fret: All Instagram users in the U.S. will now be able to broadcast their #OOTD and brunches live, thanks to the social photo platform's new live-stream feature.

Available for both iOS and Android users, Instagram Live is found on the app’s Stories feature, which lets you share photos, Boomerangs, and 10-second video clips that disappear after 24 hours. Just swipe right to access the camera, select the Live tab, and tap the "Start Live Video" button. While you're live, you can receive comments and fluttering hearts (à la Periscope) from users who joined the live-stream—but if you'd prefer a quiet session, you also have the option to turn off the comments.

It will be interesting to see how users and brands try out the new update, considering it's only been a couple of months since Facebook Live was introduced. But unlike Facebook, which saves the video for later viewing, the Instagram video disappears as soon as you're finished. Similar to Snapchat, the impermanent quality of the feature certainly provides a spontaneous, stress-free environment to share more content on the app. And let's be real, as much as we love seeing photos of Kylie's new Lip Kit wall, wouldn't it cool to see a live tour of the lipstick extravaganza, as well? Here's hoping.
