The Kat Von D Lock-It Brightening Powder Is Almost Here—for Real This Time

On Cyber Monday, Kat Von D welcomed a new Lock-It family member a little early. For one day only, Sephora shoppers could buy the new Kat Von D Lock-It Brightening Powder before its official launch next month. If you happened to miss out on the preview, yesterday the official release date was announced on the cruelty-free company's Instagram. (As a reminder, the Lock-It products are the makeup mogul's long-lasting range of base formulations.) Without further adieu, the new powder will be available on January 10 in three different shades. We're already fans of the translucent Lock-It Setting Powder for giving oily skin an unchalky matte finish, so we can't wait to see what the new tinted ones are all about. Typically, brightening powders are used to, well, brighten under eyes, working to downplay dark marks, deep circles, and hyperpigmentation. With this in mind, Kat Von D created three shades to cater to different skin tones. Golden, which is a warm flax for deep skin tones, serves as Kat Von D's version of the popular Ben Nye Banana Powder. Mario Dedivanovic, Kim Kardashian's go-to makeup artist, swears by it for concealing dark circles. The Lock-It Brightening Powder, however, will be easier to nab in comparison to the notoriously hard-to-find Ben Nye one, which, annoyingly, isn't sold on the brand's website. Von D also dropped Petal, a soft pink for lighter skin tones; the warm bisque hue for medium skin tones is called Peach.

As makeup artist Beau Nelson, who works with Kristen Stewart and Katy Perry, has told Allure in the past, loose tinted powders can be used all over your face—not just in problem areas—to correct overall tone and redness, too. Another versatile option: Take advantage of the powder's brightening abilities and sweep it along the high points of your face as a matte highlighter. One thing we know for sure, the new formulation is totally vegan and cruelty-free—just like the other Kat Von D products that launched this year.

The Kat Von D Lock-It Brightening Powder will be $25 on sephora.com. Just in case you think you're going to forget about the January 10 launch date, you can sign up now to be emailed when it's available.
