The Stila Magnificent Glitter and Glow Liquid Eye Shadow Is Perfect For NYE Makeup

If you've ever thought to yourself while watching Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve, "I wish there was a makeup equivalent of the Ball," you're in luck. The new Stila Magnificent Glitter and Glow Liquid Eye Shadow is like a bottled-up version of NYE—complete with enough glitter and shine to last you all of 2017. And if you've never thought about turning your lids into mini versions of the Ball, which is made with 2,688 Waterford crystals BTW, you're about to.

The sparkly shadow launches today in 10 70's-inspired shades, including a gold that looks like a million bucks and bright violet that Prince would have wanted to order in bulk. We put a couple of the shimmery hues to the ultimate glitter-makeup test: The company holiday party. Before heading over to the festive fête, I packed Kitten Karma (a pinky champagne based on the company's popular Kitten pressed shadow) onto my lids for a high-impact, totally intentional disco ball look. Its gold cap twists off to reveal a flat, but fluffy applicator that made it super easy to coat lids in gilded shadow. I didn't need to break out a brush to smooth it out. Right away, I noticed that the formula is an opaque metallic infused with glitter, making it a twinkling one-two punch. I'm basically a walking, talking magpie, so either part would have sufficed for me. The glitter is finely milled, so the liquid shadow felt as smooth as butter as I smeared it onto my lids.

Liz Denton, our digital editor, took a more low-key approach to the Stila Magnificent Glitter and Glow Liquid Eye Shadow. Instead, she dotted Smoldering Satin (a smoky mauve) onto her lids before sheering it out with her ring finger while the product was still wet. (And it looked amazing, might I add.) The formula is so thin that it dries in seconds, so she did one eye at a time. Then, she applied the shadow to her inner corners—with her finger again—for a highlighting effect. Because the glitter is mixed in with the metallic pigment, she didn't have any fall out under her eyes. However, I suggest not rubbing your eyes throughout the night. I noticed that friction causes the glitter to flake away. But if you leave your lids alone, you're set for hours.

When I got home from the holiday party, I used to wipe away my eye makeup before washing my face with my go-to melting cleanser, and the glitter came off so easily. With one swipe, I picked up every ounce of sparkle and didn't wake up the next morning with any glittery evidence of the night before. I'll for sure be replicating the disco ball look for NYE in a couple weeks. Also, eight shades of the Stila Magnificent Glitter and Glow Liquid Eye Shadow are available now for $24 each on sephora.com. They won't hit shelves until December 26. You'll have to wait to get Ballet Baby (a pastel pink) and the rest of the Stila Magnificent Glitter and Glow Liquid Eye Shadow shades until January 1 at Ulta. Then, the full collection will launch on stilacosmetics.com on January 6. You can see nine of the shades, except the Ulta exclusive Ballet Baby, below to help you pick out which hue is right for your NYE look.
