Good news Manhattanites, Ulta Beauty is opening it’s first brick and mortar on the upper east side in New York City. We hate to say it, but it’s about time. For years city dwellers had to travel to New Jersey, the Bronx or Rego Park for Ulta treats, but now the retailer's mass and prestige beauty products are right in their backyards.
The new location is at 144 East 86th Street and is a few blocks away from competitive brands like, Sephora and Bluemercury, so if you're looking to do some makeup shopping in Manhattan your best bet is to head to the upper east side. There’s also Ricky’s NYC which has dominated the tri-state area (since 1989!) and also opened a social-media-inspired shop last year.
So, why the new Ulta Beauty store opening? And, why now? According to WWD, thus far the beauty retailer has focused mainly on suburban markets, but is looking to open approximately 100 retail locations per year, ultimately expanding to 1,700 stores. We'll take it.

So far Ulta has 40 stores in the greater NY area, and if you remember, they teased us by opening a pop up shop in SoHo last October, but it was nothing like the store we’re used to. In fact, it only contained Ulta-branded makeup and skin-care products. Which is fine, but we wanted all the goods.
The store is set to open next fall (no word on an in-store salon yet), so we'll have to get our Ulta fixes online for now. Unless of course they open another pop up shop between now and then. And that would be a Christmas miracle.
