This DIY Salt Scrub Will Make Skin Glow in the Dead of Winter

Sugar scrubs get a lot of love in the beauty world (and stamps of approval from our editors), but there's another food-based ingredient that works just as hard to exfoliate: salt. So we've whipped up a DIY salt scrub to try this winter when, you know, your skin is flaky, dry, irritated and you'll need it most.

Unlike the made-from-scratch products we've been warning you to steer clear of (think: wasabi lip plumpers and shaving cream makeup-removing cleansers), we're full-heartedly behind this DIY beauty hack, which is made of just a few ingredients—all found in your kitchen (ok fine, and your garden slash supermarket).

The easy-to-make lavender lemon salt scrub consists of just that—coarse salt, a handful of lavender sprigs, a couple of lemon rinds, and a touch of olive oil—and is guaranteed to slough off dead skin cells and replenish moisture in the skin during the driest time of year. (Be sure to watch the full clip below for the exact measurements.)

Once you've gathered your ingredients, you mix and stir up a grainy concoction—in our opinion, the perfect DIY salt scrub. We recommend rubbing the exfoliator in circular motions while you're in the shower to avoid any unnecessary mess. (Read: You're not giving yourself a lay-down spa "sea salt glow" treatment that leaves you and the spa room a hot mess.)

After you towel off, you'll be met with soft, smooth, and gorgeously glow-y skin. You may never want to buy a store-bought scrub instead. And we wouldn't blame you.
