Among all of the losses of 2016—David Bowie, Prince, Hillary Clinton's chance to become the first female president—there was Vine, the beloved video sharing app owned by Twitter that brought merriment and viral memes to the Internet. In October, Twitter announced that it would be shutting down the social platform "in the coming months." "We value you, your Vines, and are going to do this the right way," the company said in a statement. Apparently, the "right way" means keeping the app alive because that is more or less what Twitter plans to do.
Today, the company revealed more info on its post-Vine strategy. Next month, Vine will make a comeback as a new app called "Vine Camera," which, honestly, sounds a whole lot like the original Vine. With Vine Camera, you’ll still be able to make six-second videos, and either post them on Twitter or save them to your phone, according to a statement posted on Medium. You can also store your clips alongside your previous Vines. The company also said it's allowing users to download all of their Vines through the app or the website, in addition to keeping the URLs active on vine.co.

Best of all, Twitter is currently working on a way to help us stay in contact with the Vine users we loved and followed in the past. In the coming days, be on the look out for the “Follow on Twitter” button, which you can use to transport some of your Vine followers to your Twitter accounts. The post concluded with a words of appreciation: "Thank you for the culture that you have helped shape, and for the content you’ll continue to make everywhere. You make the world a funnier, weirder, richer, more beautiful place."
