This Punk Rock Haircut Is Polarizing Instagram

One person's nightmarishly bad haircut could be another person's creative vision. Colorado–based hairstylist Chelsea James knows this all too well. She recently gave one of her clients an asymmetrical haircut of '80s punk rock proportions, and people on Instagram have some thoughts, honey.

James posted a video of herself trimming baby bangs that are so short that they could be considered fetus bangs, before spiking up the front of her client's hair. (It's so satisfying to watch, BTW.) Then, James followed up with a photo of the final look. Needless to say, it's one of the most divisive hairstyles I've ever seen on Instagram (or anywhere).

The comments section on both posts are split between praise and criticism. For every person saying that the haircut is badass and that they are "literally obsessed with it," there are two more comments that are incredibly negative. Some of the tamer ones include "ewww no" and "What. In. The. Actual. Fuck."

Luckily, some insightful followers reminded everyone that a couple of today's most popular hair trends weren't so well-received when they first started. One user called @adrianaserranol wrote, "I remember when ombré was made fun of...now everybody plus their moms have it." Preach. Also, @girls0nfilm added, "I've been doing a balayage for 12 years and nobody understood my technique and I got ridiculed often." See, folks, that's proof right there that we shouldn't be too quick to judge. This punky coif took some serious talent to execute, regardless of how you feel about how it looks. Plus, for all we know, this style might be on trend in the future.
