Christmas Wreath Eye Makeup Is the Most Festive Holiday Makeup on Instagram

'Tis the season for decking the halls with wreaths, trees, and lights, and driving down random streets to see houses in all their Christmas glory. This holiday season, people are bringing the same festive decor to their faces. First "bauble brows" were a thing. Now, Christmas wreath eye makeup is taking over Instagram. The genius behind the jolly look is Ashley Strong. However, you probably know her better as @strashme if you're one of her about 75,400 Instagram followers.

Strong recently posted a picture of herself with green eye shadow around the creases of her eyes topped with glitter and red liner ornaments to look just like a wreath. Inspired by her Christmas-y look, dozens of people have since recreated it, and my Instagram Explore page has become sprinkled with them. "The look is fairly simple to create if you just take the time to think about the aspects of an actual Christmas wreath," Strong tells Allure. "I think that's why people like it so much — the simplicity."

Stong's personal inspiration for the look came from her day job. "I work retail, and the holidays are especially tough," she says. "We have these massive Christmas wreaths we hang every year for our customers, and I just stare at them, like, all day long, thinking about cool makeup ideas for my IG. When it was time to create my next look, it might have been embedded subconsciously from all the daydreaming."

To make the wreath happen on her face, Strong started off by brushing on green eye shadow along her creases in an arched shape. "You'll want to consider what area of the eye this would best fit into," she explains. "Placement will make or break the whole aesthetic with things like this. Wreaths are round, and the roundest part of my eye is my crease, so, naturally, I placed it there." She reached for a variety of green shadows — including Moss from Kat Von D's MetalMatte Palette, M.A.C.'s Eye Shadow in Plumage, and Sugarpill's Acidberry Pressed Eyeshadow — to create a gradient look that accentuates the circular shape and creates depth for her base.

Once her green backdrop was set, Strong adorned it with ornaments made out of red and gold liners and faux frost from glitter and white liner. "This part is the most fun because the technical side is out of the way, and you can just go crazy with decoration and really make it your own!" Strong says. Strong loves that people have made the look their own. "#teamstrashme is so good at putting their own sauce on anything that inspires them from my page," she says. "In turn, it really inspires me back!" Some have even added lights, bows, and holly to their wreaths.

One of my favorites was from Caitlyn Rich. I appreciate that she brought the wreath decorations to her lower lids, too. She added concealer to the center of her lid to emphasize the circular shape of the wreath. "I wanted it to look realistic as possible, so it took a lot of patience," she tells Allure.
