Cider and Spice Hair Is the New Winter Hair-Color Trend

The season of Pumpkin Spice and everything nice might be nearing its end, making way for all things holiday cheer, but that certainly hasn't stopped people from obsessing over fall-inspired hair hues. We've witnessed autumnal takes on traditional summer shades (looking at you, sweet mango hair), as well as the seemingly never-ending slew of sultry tones many tend to gravitate to once the cool weather hits. (Even though, TBH, seasonal hair trends are BS — sorry not sorry.)

Nevertheless, the new hair-color that's made its way onto our radar might just be our favorite fall-themed one yet. Introducing what balayage specialist and salon owner Ryan Weeden dubbed "Cider + Spice" hair. And if you're wondering, yes, it looks just as scrumptious as it sounds.

An enchanting blend of auburn, brunette, and blonde tones, this hair-color trend truly mimics the aesthetic of the spicy, cinnamon-infused cider drinks that become ubiquitous around this time of year. Weeden told Allure that he was inspired when one of his longtime clients came in and wanted to spice up her hair (pun totally intended) for the season, so he decided to paint large sections of seamless balayage to create a naturally warm, beachy look with a focus on bringing extra brightness to the front of the face. The finished look could easily be appropriate for any season, though I will admit it does makes me weirdly reminiscent of sipping on warm cider 'round a campfire. Anyone else?

If you're interested in attaining cider-esque strands, too, Weeden suggests asking your colorist for a natural, multidimensional color with warmer tones and bright, ashy accents of blonde woven throughout. He also added, "creating this natural, seamless balayage is not everyone’s specialty, so make sure you feel 100% comfortable that your expectations can be met, otherwise, it can go terribly wrong."

New York–based colorist Rachel Bodt is also on the "Cider + Spice" bandwagon, musing to me via email that she loves it because it's so dimensional and the "perfect winter blonde." She explains that the key is having different tones of blonde, including a warmer tint, and then the brightest pieces on top to make everything pop.
