A Japanese Train Company Is Not A Fan Of Women Doing Makeup on the Train (But We Are)

Women who do their makeup on the train are national treasures, if you ask me. A Japanese train company, on the other hand, thinks these time-efficient women are "ugly." Of all the nasty things that happen on the way to work, women applying lipstick or liner should be the least of our worries. (Just yesterday, I stood next to someone who smelled like they just smoked seven boxes of cigarettes in one handful before getting on the train.) However, Tokyu Corporation, a private railway company, took the time to create and release a 30-second ad criticizing women who apply their makeup on the train.

In the ad, two women are seen swiping on lipstick and mascara while waiting to get to their destination. The woman sitting across from them is visibly annoyed—as though she'd witnessed an ultimate subway etiquette faux pas, like a guy man-spreading his legs in a middle seat on a crowded subway car or a crew of oblivious seated passengers ignore a standing pregnant woman. As one does when they are mad at women, the mad bare-faced woman starts singing and dancing. She tells her fellow passengers that “Women in the big city are all beautiful. But they can be ugly sometimes," “Why can’t you do it before you get on the train?” and “Your eyebrows restored and eyelashes multiplied, your transformation is witnessed,” reports the Washington Post, who translated the Japanese language video. Yup, Tokyu Corporation went there. Excuse me while I roll my eyes.
