To me, green is the scariest eye shadow color. I know, one can't really be scared of an eye shadow, but just the thought of wearing green on my face makes me squirm. The thing is, I'm not talking about olive or forest green — both of which I've mixed into a smoky eye before — I'm talking about a true, bright, in-your-face kelly green. Nope. Won't do it, won't wear it, won't even think about it. Well, until I saw what makeup artist Tom Pecheux did at Elie Saab today.
To complement the animal prints in the collection — leopard, tiger, snakeskin, cheetah — Pecheux wanted something on the eyes that had an earthy vibe. To achieve that, he mixed bright green and medium brown creams (M.A.C. Paint Sticks in Landscape Green and Deep Brown, to be exact) — swirling his brush in both and applying it to the back of his hand before spreading it along the lash line and blending it over the lids. "Mixing the green with the brown makes the green look more elegant," said Pecheux. "It creates almost a camouflage color, which I find works with every eye color and on every skin tone." It also helps that the Paint Sticks, when used sparingly and blended well, have a nice sheer finish that allows the natural texture of the skin to show through.

Pecheux also lined the eyes with M.A.C. Coffee Pencil (a medium brown eyeliner) and added a bit of brown mascara in order to frame the eyes by adding intensity to the lash line — a step that makes any tricky-to-wear color a little bit easier to pull off.
From far away, the models looked as if they were wearing a traditional charcoal shadow on their lids. But up close, you could see the green shade as they blinked and turned their heads. And while yes, this technically is bright green mixed with brown, you could still sense there was a vibrant green color on the lids. I've honestly never seen green eye shadow look this pretty, so good by irrational fear of green eye shadow, and hello my new makeup look for the weekend .
