Sunday night’s 75th annual Golden Globes ignited a spike in social media frenzy — and not just because of the #TimesUp and #MeToo movements. Turns out L’Oreal’s commercial advertising its Elvive hair products also had folks on the internet talking quite a bit. The star of the one-minute clip was none other than Winona Ryder. Let’s set the scene: she’s in her dressing room, clad in a sleeveless black gown with her wavy, chestnut brown hair flowing. Pacing around the room, she picks up her script and goes over the lines.
Ryder’s face isn’t revealed until the last 20 seconds and up to that point, it’s unclear as to what the commercial is for (although you might have had an inkling as she twirls her hair several times during the opening scene).
The ending of the commercial when Ryder hits the stage is the part where it gets tricky. MoZella’s song, “Anything's Possible” cues up as the tagline “Everyone loves a comeback” appears. It continues, “Damaged hair deserves one too.”
Oh, the drama. Ryder’s career is being compared to damaged hair! Within seconds, it became a controversy as viewers hopped on Twitter to voice their opinions on the spot.

Yes, Ryder did hit a career roadblock after the whole shoplifting incident in 2001. Remember those “Free Winona” T-shirts? She has, yes, then made a comeback in her role as single mother Joyce Byers in Netflix's Stranger Things, which earned her a nomination at the Globes for Best Actress in a Television Series Drama.
Either way you look at it, the commercial did start a conversation and is bringing attention to the products. One person tweeted that she “Can’t wait to try it.”
Hey, if L'Oreal's Elvive products can give my damaged strands as big a comeback as Ryder, yeah, I'd definitely give 'em a try.
